Hands On

Production Assistant

Mind The Gap Films are looking for a production assistant to work on the new series of Hands On. This is a full time position and runs from September to December.

  • Fluent ISL and good written English are a requirement.
  • Knowledge of the Irish Deaf Community is essential. Strong computer literacy, good communication and organisational skills are important.
  • It is preferred that applicants have a desire to pursue a career in television production but previous media experience is not essential. On the job training will be provided.
  • Applicants must be creative, hardworking, resourceful and flexible and willing to work in a mixed Deaf and hearing team and be active in the Deaf community.

The role will be varied, from basic research, to promoting the programme, coming up with new ideas, sourcing props, assisting the crew and director on shoots, data management, cataloguing filmed material.

Salary will be discussed at interview stage.

Café Harmony

Cafe Staff

Café Harmony is seeking to recruit two experienced café staff for the cafe. The positions offered are full-time, subject to the terms and conditions, and is a one-year term contract. There will be flexibility regarding the working hours. The café staff will report to the manager/assistant manager and will ensure that the objectives of the café are implemented. The staff will ensure that Café Harmony operates in a co-ordinated and effective way.
The ideal candidate will
• Have experience in the catering business
• Have a HACCP certificate (advantage)
• Be able to communicate effectively in written English and Irish Sign Language
• Have good information technology skills (advantage)
• Be team focused working well with other staff
• Be adept at working in a frenetic environment and multi-tasking
• Need to be attentive to customer requests and adept at taking and recalling orders accurately
• Have the capacity to work well within a team which is essential because assistants need to work closely with co-workers to speedily fill and serve customer orders
• Have soft skills (time management, organization skills, leadership, communications skills, willingness to travel, etc.)

Job Description for the Staff of Café Harmony

Responsible to:  The Manager and the Assistant Manager and reporting to the Manager on a regular basis.
Purpose of the Job: The staff will work with the manager and assistant manager to ensure that the objectives of Café Harmony are implemented accordingly. The staff will be responsible to ensure that Café Harmony is run well.

Main Duties:
• Work with the manager/assistant manager to ensure the café is operated as efficiently and effectively as possible
• Ensure that there is an good communication system in place so that all duties taking place in the café are clear to all concerned
• Ensure that communication needs of staff and patrons are being met with accordingly
• Establish proper information systems with regard to rota and duties, supplies and delivery
• Maintain repeatedly used general items such as coffee makers, ice makers and espresso machines.
• Operate cash registers to take payments from customers
• Prepare and serve food for consumption on the cafe premises or package them up for takeout orders
• Require to clear used cutlery and plates when tables are vacated and to clean the tables thoroughly for the next arriving customers
• Include washing dishes and utensils and helping take delivery of fresh food and beverages.
• Make sure that there is a health and safety plan in place
• Ensure that the café is kept clean at all times
• Duties are unlikely to be strictly scheduled so an assistant will often need to switch from one role to another on an impromptu basis

The salary for the position will be based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Personal Assistant/ Secretary

CIDP is seeking to recruit a part time Secretary/ Personal Assistant for a period of circa six months to cover the maternity leave of the current job holder.

The position is available on the basis of 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday. The Irish Deaf Society

Administrator
Position will be based at the Deaforward Department at the Irish Deaf Society/Deaf Village Ireland.

Duties will include assisting the Advocacy Manager.

Purpose of Post:
To provide an independent advocacy service for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in Ireland. The service aims to make a demonstrable difference to people’s quality of life, by helping them to become more aware of their own rights, to exercise those rights and to be listened to and responded to. In some situations, an advocate may need to represent another person’s interests. This is called non-instructed advocacy and is used when a person is unable to communicate their views.

Main Tasks

The Administrator will:

  • Get to know the Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals they are working with, to gain an understanding of their needs, interests and wishes.
  • Work one-to-one with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals to develop their confidence wherever possible, and try to ensure that they feel as empowered as possible to take control of their own lives.
  • Identify the issues affecting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and, when appropriate, work with agencies that specialise in these issues.
  • Work in a way that reflects the wishes and interests of each individual using the service, enabling them to advocate for themselves, and/or acting on the individual’s behalf when requested.

The Administrator will:

  • Have competency in dealing with phone calls/queries in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of Irish Sign Language would be an advantage. Training will be provided.

Experience Requirement:

  • Computer skills with good knowledge and ability to use the Microsoft package, including word processing, spreadsheets and database is crucial.
  • Good awareness of the Deaf community, culture and Irish Sign Language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Wages will be negotiable
  • One year contract – Full Time
